On Sunday May 24, the Muslim communities of Edmonton will be serving a roast beef lunch to the homeless. The goal is to spark conversations on shared values of service and charity, build meaningful connections and to develop a sense of social consciousness.
The dinner is run by young volunteers in the Muslim community and is backed by Islamic Family and Social Services Association (IFSSA), a social service organization with a twenty-year history in Edmonton.
A typical dinner provides 800 hearty meals to those most in need. The event involves an average of 70 people putting in 300+ hours of volunteer time. Previously, the dinners were an annual affair, but the program has increased in frequency and participation.
