On Sunday January 24, the Muslim communities of Edmonton will be serving a roast beef lunch to the homeless. The goal is to spark conversations on shared values of service and charity, build meaningful connections and to develop a sense of social consciousness. The dinner is run four times a year by young volunteers in the Muslim community and is backed by Islamic Family and Social Services Association (IFSSA), a social service organization with a twenty-year history in Edmonton. A typical dinner provides 800 hearty meals to those most in need. The event involves an average of 70 people putting in 300+ hours of volunteer time.

Shift Information

1) Friday Evening: Preparing and marinating the roast beef. We will be working with knives, and advise that only volunteers 16 years and over sign up to this shift.
2) Saturday Shift: Buttering the bread, preparing the utensil packets, and cooking/slicing the meat. All ages are welcome to sign up to this shift.
3) Sunday Morning: Everything from cooking the vegetables and making the mashed potatoes, to preparing drinks and setting up fruit platters, to cleaning and setting up the dining area. All ages are welcome to sign up to this shift.
4) Sunday Serving Shift: Warm plates of veggies, potatoes and meat are served to the inner-city community with the help of our volunteers. This shift allows volunteers to engage directly with Boyle Street's service users and is an excellent way for young kids and families to participate in giving back to their community.
5) Sunday Noon Shift: Serving the last part of the meal and helping clean up the kitchen and wash the dishes. All ages are welcome to sign up to this shift.

Please note: If you are unable to fulfill the commitment of volunteering you are required to call the volunteer coordinator to notify him/her that you will be unable to attend so we can fill your spot. We require this notice 24 hours in advance if possible. If you do not notify the volunteer coordinator that you cannot attend you will not be able to sign up for future events. Jazak Allah Khair
