On Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm the Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting will be hosting the second Cyclovia event in Red Deer. We are very excited to offer this new event for Red Deer. This will be an "Open Streets" activity, where selected streets in the downtown core will be temporarily closed to car traffic so that people of all ages and abilities may use them for a variety of activities including, but not limited to: open restaurants and cafes, active living association booths, yoga, bicycle repair demos, etc.. We are planning on scheduled activities as well. The street closures will be very similar to those of Centre Fest.
The event includes two (2) satellite stations (Kerry Wood Nature centre and Dawe Library) where participants will be provided with safe and beautiful routes to the city core to enjoy a car free experience in downtown Red Deer.
An Open Streets event brings people together, promoting physical activity and exploring the city in fun and active ways. They also help to:
· Encourage active transportation, such as biking and walking.
· Encourages participants to visit and shop at local establishments.
· Develop a sense of community by improving safety and perceptions of safety.
Encouraging people of all ages and abilities to engage in a fun and social activity in the downtown will create:
· Greater awareness of our paths and bike/ multi-use trails as a safe and useful way to move in the city.
