Edmonds Driftwood Players is looking for actors for our season 2017/18 show, To Kill A Mockingbird which will run February 9 - 25, 2018. There is one Saturday matinee performance scheduled at 2pm on Saturday, 2/24.

Auditions will be held at the Training Room in the Admin Office which is located at 306 Main Street, in the lower level of the Bank of America Building.

Produced by Anabel Hovig and directed by Elizabeth Herbert, this show is an adaptation by Christopher Sergel of the book written by Harper Lee.

Rehearsal schedule will be finalized after casting but will include weekday evenings and some Saturdays in December and January. Callbacks will be held Monday evening, November 13 from 7 - 10pm. Attendance at callbacks is a requirement for being cast in the show.

All actors must bring a resume and headshot and be prepared to deliver a 1 - 2minute dramatic monologue.

ENSEMBLE: (male and female, ALL AGES AND ETHNICITIES) Townspeople, Farmers, Rev. Sykes’ Congregation, Mob and Spectators

FEMALE ROLES:
JEAN LOUISE “SCOUT” FINCH: (Caucasian female to play 6) Scout is the protagonist of the play. She is bold, precocious, courageous and forthright. She is a tomboy and the younger sister to Jem. She personifies the innocence of childhood, especially because of her inability to understand racial prejudice.
JEAN LOUISE FINCH: (Caucasian female narrator, 35-45) She is grown-up Scout who looks back upon the dramatic time of her youth with a touching perspective.
CALPURNIA: (African-American female, 25-60) She is proud and capable. She’s a self-educated woman who has raised the motherless Scout and Jem since they were toddlers. Her standards are high and her discipline is uncompromising.
MAUDIE ATKINSON: (Caucasian female, 30-50) Younger than Atticus, but of his generation, she’s a lovely, wise, compassionate and sensitive woman. She represents the best of the south at that time period.
STEPHANIE CRAWFORD: (Caucasian female, 45-60) She is the town gossip who enjoys stirring things up. She’s loud, brash and petty.
MRS. DUBOSE: (Caucasian female, 70+) She is an old, ill woman who walks with difficulty. Her pain has made her mean, bitter and angry.
HELEN ROBINSON: (African-American female, 20-40) Helen is Tom’s wife and mother to their young children. She is numb with shock at the false charge against her husband.
MAYELLA EWELL: (Caucasian female, 18-22) The oldest daughter of Bob Ewell who is desperately lonely, fearful and overworked. Her need for companionship brings destruction into her life and the lives of the Robinson family. She’s poor, uneducated and a product of her circumstances.

MALE ROLES:
JEREMY “JEM” FINCH: (Caucasian male to play 9-12) Scout’s older brother and son to Atticus. Jem shares his father’s intelligence, honor and bravery. He wants to understand and communicate with his father.
ATTICUS FINCH: (Caucasian male, 40-50) A solid and dependable person. He is a country lawyer in his hometown of Maycomb, Ala. and father of Scout and Jem. He’s quietly courageous and without heroics; he does what he considers just. He is the tall, quietly impressive, reserved and civilized hero of the play. His integrity and strength are beyond reproach. He is a pillar of goodness and honor.
CHARLES BAKER “DILL” HARRIS: (Caucasian male to play 9-12) Seasonal playmate to Jem and Scout. Small and wise beyond his years, Dill is more sophisticated than his friends. He is unhappy in his own life and senses an air of strong family bonds in the Finches. He has a profound love and admiration for Atticus.
WALTER CUNNINGHAM: (Caucasian male, 35-60) Cunningham is a hard-up farmer who shares the prejudices of this time and place, but is, nevertheless, a man who can be reached as a human being.
ARTHUR “BOO” RADLEY: (Caucasian male, 30-45) A recluse who hasn’t been seen outside his house in fifteen years. He is the town’s mystery legend who is feared by children and misunderstood by adults. At the end of the play, he ventures out and performs an act of heroism.
TOM ROBINSON: (African-American male, 25-40) Robinson is handsome and vital, but with a left hand crippled by a childhood accident. He faces up to a false charge of rape and assault of Mayella Ewell with dignity. There’s an undercurrent in him of kindness, sensitivity and empathy.
JUDGE TAYLOR:(Caucasian male, 45-50+) The judge, a grumpy man, does what he can within the context of his time to see justice done in his court. While he tries to run his court impartially, his sympathy is with Atticus and Tom.
MR. GILMER: (Caucasian male, 30-50) He is a public prosecutor doing his job trying to convict Tom. He is unsure of Tom’s guilt, but still pursues a conviction in a sometimes cruel and unjust way.
BOB EWELL: (Caucasian male, 40-55) Mayella’s father. Ewell is an arrogant, uneducated, poor and crass man who lives with his large family by the town dump. He’s equally bitter, angry and prejudiced beyond the pale. When Atticus destroys his credibility, he seeks revenge.
REVEREND SYKES: (African-American male, 40+) An imposing man with a strong stage presence and voice. Minister of the First Purchase Church.
HECK TATE: (Caucasian male, 40-50) Heck is the town sheriff and a complex man. He does his duty as he sees it, and enforces the law without favor.
NATHAN RADLEY: (Caucasian male, 30+) Boo’s older brother. He is a thin and laconic man. (This role can also be ‘doubled’ with that of Boo Radley).
