Global Citizen Events www.globalcitizenevents.com is an annual initiative celebrating the role of Kelowna’s citizens in international (& local) humanitarian efforts. Global Schoolhouse 2020 invites grade 6 students to experience life in places where going to school is a luxury. Volunteers are needed to bring this simulation to life! The presentation which is made up of 6 mini-presentations takes 2 hours to complete and there are two sessions each day beginning at 9:30 and 11:30. Groups of approx. 20 students, led by a tour guide, rotate through various scenarios depicting possible reasons why children are not able to attend school. By rotating through the short scenarios as small groups the material is presented 8 times each day for the 6 days and allows for almost 2000 students and staff to attend. Teachers have stated how it makes a lasting impact on their students as well as themselves! It is PREFERABLE to volunteer for both sessions of the day from 9 am-1:30 pm but arrangements can be made to be present for one or the other of the twice daily sessions. Full day volunteers have breakfast snacks as well as a hot lunch provided.
