Casting Details:
Sabrina Fairchild: Looks 25-30; bright and vivacious, lights up a room, well-educated. She is appealing, sophisticated but animated. Effervescent. She “has fallen in love with the world and is having a passionate affair with it.” She has reinvented herself through her professional experience after 5 years in Paris and has come home to find out if she is still in love with the younger Larrabee son, David. She still bears traces of a shyness ingrained from childhood. Needs to speak some French.

Maude Larrabee: Looks 60 & up; the elegant and regal mother of Linus, Jr., and David. She has wit and perception, though she can be snobby and put on airs. “A reigning beauty all her life, with a smile that is a devastatingly effective mingling of laughter and rue. She has a bearing and walk that make her seem taller than she is, she speaks with a wide-eyed candor and directness that makes every remark of hers important beyond its meaning.

Julia Ward McKinlock: Looks 60 & up; Maude’s best friend since they were 18. Formerly a famous magazine editor and bookstore owner in the Paris of the 20’s, she is a woman ahead of her time. She plays the interested observer, wise, witty and blunt with a face “that shows intelligence and good humor and awareness.” She is currently recovering from minor surgery. Sings a French song.

Gretchen Larrabee: Looks 25-30; David’s ex-wife, who is now dating Linus. “well-bred, knowing…tough.” She is “strikingly, carefully, immaculately beautiful with the calm air and hard sheen of a fashion drawing.” Could double as Young Woman 1 or 2, partygoers.

Margaret: Looks 45 and up. The family maid, head of the household servants, could be like Sabrina’s older sister or mother figure, as she is warm and loving to Sabrina. She has been with the Larrabees a long time. She has kept Sabrina up-to-date by sending her letters about the happenings of the Larrabee family. Ability to cry realistically a plus. Depending on age, could double as Young Woman 1 or 2, partygoers.

Linus Larrabee, Jr.: Looks 35-40; the elder Larrabee son, a cynical, good-humored tycoon, who has taken control of the family fortune. “Rugged-looking and easy in his movements.” An attractive sense of calm, quiet and reserve. He always seems to be holding himself in, checking his laughter and relishing it alone. He is aware of his power and capabilities; it would take a great deal to shake him. He detects Sabrina’s feeling for his brother and for his own amusement lays a trap to bring them together. He knows the price of everything but has no concept of the value of love. He is the real protagonist of the piece, as it is his decisions and personal growth that key the play’s action and resolution.

David Larrabee: Looks 25 to 30; the younger of the two Larrabee sons, a debonair and wanton playboy, who has been previously married. He becomes quickly smitten with Sabrina and wants to marry her. “Easy good humor…sure control.” David is like Linus in many ways, but “lighter,” overall. He lacks the power, resolution and confidence of his brother.

Linus Larrabee, Sr: Looks 60 & up; the father of Linus, Jr. and David. Courtly, gracious, charming, but showing signs of age. He has become a man of leisure who amuses himself by attending funerals. Since he lost interest in most features of his life many years ago, he is inclined to vagueness about occurrences in the present that do not directly concern him, and has become increasingly taciturn, being given to abrupt silences that he shatters abruptly.

Tom Fairchild: Looks 50 & up; Sabrina’s father, and the Larrabees’ chauffeur for over 30 years. Quiet, humble, but with his own dignity. An avid reader, and surprisingly smart about money. His deceased wife, and Sabrina’s mother, was the cook for the Larrabees. Could be played British.

Paul D’Argenson: Looks 30 - 35; a Parisian suitor of Sabrina’s. “With his affability, the man has authority.” He wears a permanent smile, and his eyes are alive and perceptive. Speaks with a French accent, but with undertones of Oxfordian English. Could double as Young Man 1 or 2, depending on age.

Young Men, 1 & 2: Looks teens to 25. In formal attire. One could double with Paul.
Young Women 1 & 2: Looks Teens to 25; could double with Gretchen, depending on age. Elegantly dressed in scene.

Please call 425.774.9600 between noon and 5pm, Tuesday through Friday if you have questions. Thank you!
