Jackrabbit/Bunnies Volunteers WCCSC 2016/17 signup sheet
The Jackrabbit/Bunnies 2016/17 Program at Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club needs volunteer leaders, and helpers. Cross Country Canada guidelines state that 2 adults are needed for every 4 Bunnies (age 4-5yr), and 2 adults are needed for every 6 Jackrabbits (age 6-9yr). The more volunteer leaders and helpers we have, the more kids we can have in this popular program.
Leaders and helpers will receive perks from WCCSC including free warm drinks on program days, free day-pass on program days, and a free JR/B ski toque or buff! The children of volunteers will have guaranteed spot to register in the program. Registration for the JR/B will open online on October 24th - a link on the WCCSC website will be provided closer to that date.
No coaching experience is needed to volunteer as a leader or helper. You do not have to perfect technique yourself to coach these kids! If you can put skis on, and you love cross country skiing you can volunteer with this program!
Cross Country Canada guidelines state that leaders must have taken the Intro to Community Coaching (ICC) or Community Coaching (CC) courses. These courses will be offered twice in Whitehorse, (Nov 18-20 and Nov 25-27) and will be a great opportunity to learn everything you need to know about coaching the next generation of lifelong skiers! JR/B leaders and helpers course fees will be paid for by WCCSC. Go to http://www.crosscountryyukon.com/coaching-certification to register for ICC/CC courses. Volunteer coaches will also have access to great resources outlining goals of the program, activities and games!

It is important to the development of the skiers skills that we have consistent coaching. Ideally the same leaders/helpers working with each group week-to-week. Therefore we ask for a commitment to coaching all 9 sessions. However, there will inevitably be days when the regular leader/helper can not attend and hence, there is also an opportunity for spare coaches to volunteer, on an on-call basis.
