Youth Central is helping The City of Calgary roll out the green carts this year, by putting together the information packages. Be part of this green initiative!

Food and yard waste is the single largest type of waste that’s filling up our landfills, and Calgary’s Green Cart program is a new residential program aimed at helping residents reduce their garbage and turn this material into nutrient-rich compost instead. Youth Central needs your help to stuff bags with the items that will be delivered to each household.

Beginning this summer, over 320,000 green carts and starter kits will be delivered to single-family homes where residents can put all their food and yard waste inside the cart for weekly collection.

After a successful pilot that saw residents reduce their garbage nearly in half, the Green Cart program will make a huge difference in helping protect the environment and preserving valuable space left in our landfills.

With Calgarians help, it’s expected that we’ll keep over 85 million kilograms of food and yard waste out of the landfills every year. In turn, this high-quality compost will be used in parks, gardens and local farms to enrich the soil.

Come out and support a great cause and make Calgary a little greener!

Please note: Lunch will be provided. Please bring your own reusable water bottle. This project involves a lot of walking or standing, please wear closed toed shoes that you're comfortable in.
