The critically-acclaimed play, “Leaving Iowa,” by Tim Clue and Spike Manton is a hilarious, family-friendly comedy that is a toast to the idealism and character of parents from the “greatest generation,” and a little roast of their dedication to the family road trip. This comedy about family and family vacations is a show suitable for ages 10 to 110.

The story centers on Don Browning, a middle-aged writer who returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa in search of a proper resting place. As he drives those familiar roads, the story shifts back and forth from the present to memories of the annual, torturous vacations of Don’s youth. Ultimately, Don’s existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at an unpredictable and perfect final destination.

Characters:
Don Browning – male, 30s/40s. A writer on a road trip to find the perfect resting place for his father May play a younger version of himself in some scenes and an older version in others.
Dad - 40s to 60s. The energetic, somewhat bombastic, but very lovable head of the Browning household.
Mom - 30s to 60s. The ever-patient mother of the Browning household. (May play the mother in her thirties in some scenes and in her 60s in others.)
Sis - 30s to 40s, Don’s slightly older sister, as annoying as any older sister might be. (May play a much younger version of herself in some scenes and an older version in others.)
“multi-character” Guy & “multi-character” Gal - Any age. These two actors play all the crazy characters that interact with the Browning family: from drunken relatives and greasy mechanics to grocery clerks, waitresses, tour guides, civil war re-enactors, farmers and many, many others.

Those auditioning should prepare one light or comic monologue, about a minute in length, and be prepared to possibly repeat the monologue in different character voices, accents or ages.

* Auditions and callbacks will be located in the Training Room at the Admin Office, 306 Main Street - Lower Level 1 (below the Bank of America), entrance on south side of the building.

Call the office at 425.774.9600 Tuesday - Friday from noon until 5pm, if you have questions!
