Saturday, December 20 will be a magical evening for Garden of Lights! Santa Claus will be in the greenhouse from 6-8 p.m. and the Sugar Plum Furries are scheduled to delight children. Join us for a magical evening!

Pick a shift that appeals to you and sign up. Please note that we may move you if you are stationed indoors to assist outdoors, so dress in warm clothing.

Here is a description of the roles:
Greeters- These volunteers are in charge of collecting donations from visitors. Dress in warm clothing as you will be outside for your shift.
Beverage Station Attendants- Serve and restock warm spiced apple cider to visitors in the Outdoor Teaching Kitchen. Wear gloves that allow your fingers to be dexterous
Gift Shop/Plant Wrapper- Help make holiday plant sales in the greenhouse and wrap outgoing plants. Give each customer a tag to take to the front desk to pay.
Kids Activity- Santa's Helper- Hand out Candy Canes to children and help keep the line for Santa orderly
Kids Activity- Sugar Plum Furries Assistant- Help by holding one of the dogs, setting up soft spots to sit, and assisting Amy if she needs a break. Dog lovers preferred!
Trained Altru Cashier- Please only sign up if you have been trained to work the register at the front desk
Staff members- Staff only

Before you arrive-
If you signed up someone else for a shift, please share this information with them and confirm that they can make it. Please tell me if there are cancellations ASAP.
Arrive on time for your shift.
Dress warmly and in layers appropriate for the forecasted weather. Although you may have signed up for an indoor or outdoors shift, if there is a cancellation you may be moved by a staff member.
Bring a water bottle and snacks. We will provide coffee and tea for volunteers.

When you get here-
Location- The Gardens are located at 2145 Centre Ave., just south of the intersection of Prospect and Centre Ave, between Prospect and Drake Roads.
Parking- Please park on Botanical Lane, which is the turn just past the gardens on the right if you are coming from Prospect. Here is a map: https://goo.gl/maps/L6zq0
When you arrive for your shift, come inside the main entrance to our Visitor Center. You will be directed to the volunteer center. Check the shift schedule, sign in, sign a waiver ONLY if you aren't a regular volunteer at The Gardens, get an apron to wear, wear your name tag (regular volunteers) or make one (first-time volunteers). Please keep in mind that your personal belongings will not be watched by staff if you choose to leave them in the volunteer center, so it may be best to leave them in your car.

During your shift-
There will be a laminated set of directions at each station to get you started. If you have questions, please ask.
Customer Service Guidelines- smile, thank visitors for coming, let them know that hot cider is in the outdoor teaching kitchen, and direct visitors to look for the black signs for entertainment details.
Please refrain from saying, "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas." Garden of Lights is all about the magic of the seasons. Let the lights "speak" for themselves.
If a visitor asks you a question you can't answer, please connect them to a staff member.
