We're excited to hold the Spring Plant Sale in the same great location as the last sale, adjacent to the new parking area sandwiched in between the Australian, South African and New Zealand collections! A map will be posted to our website prior to the sale.
Volunteers - please read job descriptions before signing up.
ALL Sale Day jobs require alert standing and interacting with customers.
We will send reminder emails out the week prior to the sale with what to bring (water, hat, sunscreen, snacks or lunch, layers, etc.) plus parking and work instructions. *Carpooling, busing, biking, & walking highly encouraged.

Plant Moving Day (Friday): moving LOTS of plants: bending, lifting, walking on gravel and uneven ground (lunch provided) - am & pm shifts
Plant Sale Set-Up (Friday): assist with setting up signage, cones, tables, etc - involves lifting, bending, walking on gravel and uneven ground - pm shift

SALE DAY (Saturday):
Parking: standing, may need to move quickly on uneven dirt, look up and attentively direct cars safely to available spaces,
use walkie-talkies to communicate with other parking helpers, wear a sportie and stylish neon-orange safety vest!
Welcome / Membership table 9:00am-12pm: experienced or Board volunteers only please. Friendly welcome, check ALL customers for current membership using laptop and paper list when membership card is not presented. Encourage and share benefits of membership with potential new members and sign up new members.
Welcome / Membership table (afternoon): Friendly welcome & asking arriving customers if they know how the sale works. Show map of layout, pointing to CNPS sale, Arb sale, Holding Area, Sales Ticket Writers, etc... Encourage and share benefits of membership with potential new members and sign up new members.
Entrance: welcoming people entering, asking them to check in at membership table (10am -12pm only), looking up, attentive, social work
Exit: standing, checking that plants match sales receipts, thanking them for coming, looking up, attentive, social work
Sales Ticket Writer: standing job, look up & around to show availability, friendly customer service, ask shoppers if they are ready for a tally, clearly tallying plants (may require bending), instruct customer to take plants to Holding Area (if necessary) and to take their tally ticket to cashier
Holding Area: We promise to make the Holding area BIGGER this time around! Assist customers find a place in the holding area to hold their desired purchases, let them know how it works, give them a flag and a playing card marker to attach to their selections. Ask if they need help carrying more plants into the holding area. Let them know to have a sales ticket writer tally up plants prior to paying at Cashiers tables.
Wheelbarrow valet: standing job, look up & around to show availability, assist customer in transporting plants to car, bring barrow back to sale area, one person assigned to one barrow for whole shift. Great physical exercise opportunity! And fun to chat with customers about their plants.
Floater - Activities could include helping customers move plants into and out of holding area, or assisting Sales Ticket Writers during busy times. Floaters could be asked to assist with any of the other volunteer jobs listed here.
Clean up: sale ends, moving plants, tables, chairs, etc. back to Hort buildings and/or Gift shop
