The 2018 Duck Jazz Festival, presented by PNC, takes place on Columbus Day Weekend annually in October. This year's festival will begin with activities leading up to the full day of music in the Duck Town Park. Events include a Story Time on Friday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m., Interactive family event Friday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m., and a Concert on the Green on Saturday, October 6 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 5-7, 2018 at the Duck Town Park (1200 Duck Road). On Sunday gates open at 10:00 a.m., and live music starts at 11:00 a.m.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR A JAZZ FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER MEETING ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4 AT 9:00 A.M. IN THE DUCK TOWN MEETING HALL. WE WILL DISTRIBUTE T-SHIRTS, QUICKLY REVIEW ASSIGNMENTS, AND ANSWER QUESTIONS.

VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTIONS:
VOLUNTEER SIGN-IN GREETER: Be on hand in the volunteer room (1st Floor Conference Room) to assist volunteers who are arriving to become oriented with where their volunteer station is, give appropriate badge and have them check-in or check-out for their shift. Role also includes helping with volunteer food station and trash as necessary to assist keeping this area clean, and replenished.

CONCERT Set-up/Break-down Parking: Similar to a Concert on the Green in the summer, this event will have volunteers assist with sign placement, parking, general set-up and take down of recycle and trash bins, merchandise area etc.

MERCHANDISE SALES: Similar to the summer concerts, however with jazz merchandise as well.

SPONSOR Welcome & Check-In: There will be a special Sponsor Area behind and to the side of the stage at the Saturday evening concert. Volunteers in this area will assist with greeting sponsors, and provide assistance to town staff during event.

PARKING: Three parking lots: the main lot, north public lot, and volunteer lot (most likely at PNC, but that will be confirmed closer to the event). The Town's main lot is reserved for handicapped until full, band parking, and OAR rentals. Assist with parking, monitor open spaces, and notify entering cars when lot is full.

GATE ENTRANCE: Responsible for guarding access to park before gates open at 10 a.m. Greet festival goers as they come in; hand out Jazz Festival brochures; help track attendance with handheld counters. PLEASE NOTE: to prevent crowds arriving during set-up, we set the "Gate Times" for 10:00 a.m. While it is difficult to enclose the park, we do need to work together to enforce this. While being a volunteer may allow a perk of setting some items on the green before 10 am, it does send a confusing message to attendees arriving before the gate open time. Those working at the Gate must be willing to enforce the closure, and could address items on the Green early as a perk for volunteers, and band guests, and suggest that we would love the attendee to help and volunteer their time with us next year!

CONCESSIONS: Responsible for sales of soft drinks and bottled water & providing information.

GROUNDS: Responsible for ongoing maintenance of trash & recycling, and ensuring Concessions are fully stocked with ice and drinks.

SECURITY: Main stage -- Responsible for overseeing access to the backstage and restricted band parking areas. Amphitheater -- Responsible for overseeing access to the Amphitheater stage between acts.

MERCHANDISE: Responsible for sales of town and band merchandise.
