Again, this year, more than one hundred Christ Church volunteers will come together to provide a warm, traditional Thanksgiving meal to homeless and hungry folks in our community the day before Thanksgiving. We enable a night off to local soup kitchen workers. Our Parish Hall transforms into a grand banquet hall serving 200 guests on real plates with additional servings and leftovers in to-go boxes. Our courtyard fills with skilled volunteers providing a bike repair ministry, and the foyer will be the distribution point for socks, gloves and hand-knitted scarves and hats for the guests. Many volunteer jobs and shifts are available below. Please feel free to select more than one. On Tuesday, November 20 we'll carve turkeys, set up the Parish Hall, and create gift bags with socks, gloves, etc. for distribution after the meal on Wednesday (nursery and dinner provided). On Wednesday, November 21 we'll provide bike repairs, gift bags and serve a delicious Thanksgiving Meal to our guests (nursery provided, but please EAT ON YOUR OWN before or after the event as all food goes to our guests). We have never had any problems, but a uniformed police officer will be present for safety. If you select a job as a shopper or purchaser of items before the event, you will be provided a detailed shopping list and will be reimbursed.
Please also consider making a monetary donation at the “Turkey Tree” station in the Parish Hall. $30 buys a turkey, and $15 a side dish. Please also consider donating new socks, gloves, feminine hygiene products, adult bikes in good working condition. We also need adult bike parts in new or good used condition: chains, tires, reflectors, lights, pedals, tire tubes, and even wheels without tires at least 26” in diameter.
